Dialogue with a time witness in Świnoujście:
An important aspect of the ERASMUS+ project is meeting with time witnesses. During the first student activity of the project on the island of Usedom, the students visited a participating school in Świnoujście. There, the time witness Jan Szczygiel, a resident of Świnoujście, shared his difficult childhood experiences with the young people.
Jan Szczygiel, born in 1941, was deported from Warsaw as a medical research subject to the Liesingen concentration camp near Vienna. After the camp was liberated by the Soviets, he returned to the Polish capital on a military transport, where his mother found him through the Red Cross. His story is moving, and his message to young people in Europe is important and clear - peace is a value that stands above all. (Photos: Carlo Lejeune)
